Adaptive Damping
ArvinMeritor’s Adaptive Damping technology maximizes
driver comfort and safety. Damping levels, determined by the ECU,
are continuously modified to provide the optimal level of ride
comfort while offering improved handling and safety. The product
design is scalable and allows for ease of installation on mid-model
enhancements, or can be made available as an option on a wide range
of vehicles. An electro magnetically-controlled combination spool
and poppet valve replaces the standard piston in monotube and twin
tube shocks. The damping is provided entirely by the valve, which
eliminates deflected disks and simplifies OEM tuning and ride
development time.

Adaptive Damping System
ArvinMeritor's Adaptive Damping System provides best-in-class performance at a competitive price. It has a wide force range, fast response time, the ability to shift on force, and frequency-dependent damping capability. This is done with an electro-magnetically actuated combination spool and poppet valve “spoopet,” replacing a standard piston in either a monotube or twin-tube shock/strut. All damping is provided by the valve, which eliminates deflected disks and simplifies the OEM’s tuning and development time. The simplicity of the valve and the flexibility in manufacturing give ArvinMeritor the ability to provide a high-performance, cost-effective solution.
