TROY, Mich., (Nov. 6, 2009) � Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems today announced the availability of TOOLBOX� 9.0, the latest PC-based diagnostics software for its pneumatic and hydraulic anti-lock braking systems, electronic leveling modules, and electronically-controlled air suspensions.

New features in TOOLBOX� 9.0 include:

Support for RSSPlus�, Meritor WABCO�s trailer-based stability system.
Support for the �E� version of Hydraulic ABS (HABS).
Support for tractor ABS �E� version 4.3 and Hydraulic Power Brake (HPB) releases 1 and 2.

TROY, Mich., (Aug. 4, 2009) � Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has announced that its current lineup of air disc brakes is capable of supporting North American truck operators to meet and exceed the newly-released U.S. federal government mandated, shortened stopping distance requirements.

�Our North American original equipment and fleet customers are well-positioned for selecting outstanding solutions to meet the new stopping distance requirements,� said Jon Morrison, president, Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems, a joint venture between ArvinMeritor and WABCO Automotive Control Systems, Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of WABCO Holdings, Inc.

ArvinMeritor Drum Brakes Offer Customer Solutions to Meet New Stopping Distance Regulation Changes

TROY, Mich., (July 28, 2009)�� ArvinMeritor, Inc. (NYSE: ARM) announced today that its portfolio of Meritor^� Q Plus^� drum brakes will enable North American truck operators to meet the recently issued U.S. government mandate for shortened stopping distance requirements.

The company has worked for more than three years to prepare the Q Plus product in anticipation of this ruling. The Q Plus drum brake is currently undergoing the final phases of implementation testing to meet this new requirement.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the new standard requires a typical tractor-trailer traveling at 60 miles per hour come to a complete stop in 30 percent less distance (250 feet versus the existing standard of 355 feet). The new rule applies only to new truck tractors, and does not include single-unit trucks, trailers and buses. The new rule will be phased in over the next four years beginning with 2012 models.

�It's a real benefit that truck operators are able to meet their stopping needs and the new federal stopping distance requirements without having to make significant changes to their drum brake specifications or service practices,� said Joe Plomin, vice president, Truck, ArvinMeritor. �We have the technology and products and we are ready to support our customers. We have been working closely with vehicle manufacturers and fleets on field tests. Our time-proven and optimized drum brakes will meet the full compliance timeline, and we will continue to work with our OEM customers to make this new regulation transition seamless.�

Meritor WABCO Introduces SmartTrac� Stability Control Systems Family with Multi-Function Electronic Control Units

(July 8, 2009) �Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has introduced SmartTrac^�, a suite of proven anti-lock braking, automatic traction control, and stability control systems for commercial vehicles. SmartTrac uses advanced electronic control units with enhanced capabilities, to help North American truck operators with more options to meet their operational needs.

�SmartTrac fits perfectly with our Pyramid of Safety concept,� said Jon Morrison, president and general manager of Meritor WABCO. �It provides a broad base for controlling braking and stability control technologies now and in the future,� he said.

The SmartTrac family of stability control systems is currently available immediately as a factory-installation option at several truck, tractor and trailer OEMs. The family encompasses anti-lock braking systems (ABS), automatic traction control (ATC), and stability control systems � designed for vehicle applications like commercial trucks and trailers, construction, fire and rescue, bus and coach, and military.

SmartTrac integrates the company�s active safety systems technologies:

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (released in 2005 by Meritor WABCO) combines Roll Stability Control (RSC) with the added capability of yaw or rotational control. ESC can reduce the risk of the vehicle instability while in a slippery curve or taking an evasive action; preventing jack-knife and drift-out conditions through select braking of the tractor and application of the trailer brakes. If loss of stability is detected, tractor-trailer speed is reduced through engine control and application of the engine brake, tractor and trailer foundation brakes. Currently, Meritor WABCO has installed ESC in thousands of heavy-duty trucks and specialty vehicles.

Roll Stability Control (RSC) provides the highest value of vehicle rollover stability with the fewest components, maintenance requirements and lowest cost. It continually monitors conditions that can lead to a rollover and can automatically de-throttle the engine and apply the engine brake, and drive and trailer axle foundation brakes to reduce tractor-trailer speed when lateral acceleration limits are about to be exceeded. Currently, the company has systems in 60,000 vehicles.

RSSplus^� is an advanced two-modulator valve, trailer only, stability control system that integrates with the trailer�s anti-lock braking system. It continually calculates the trailer�s roll stability threshold based on load and measures actual lateral acceleration (side-to-side movements) and individual wheel speeds. When conditions indicate that a rollover may occur, the system automatically intervenes by reducing engine torque, and engaging the engine retarder, while automatically applying drive axle and trailer brakes to slow the vehicle and assist the driver in maintaining control. RSSplus is an ideal solution for retrofit applications for fast implementation of stability control protection.

Monitoring and telematics: Communicating over the tractor�s data bus, status messages can be relayed to an on-board computer with telematics capabilities. Fleet managers at home can correlate stability control and braking events with precise time and location data.

Improved diagnostics and event recording: The SmartTrac family of ECUs can capture data about braking and stability control events and create a record of accurate, detailed information that fleet managers can use to identify trends and build more effective driver training programs.

NPTC Safety Committee and Regional Fleet Customers Experience Advanced Braking Systems by Meritor WABCO

TROY, Mich., (June 24, 2009) � Over 55 motor carrier executives from the Northeast, Midwest, South, and Canada experienced yesterday first-hand the performance and benefits of advanced braking systems for truck trailers at a ride-n-drive demonstration in the Detroit suburb of Romeo. Attendees included members of the Safety Committee of the National Private Truck Council.

The fleet managers were able to see and feel the latest active-safety technology for commercial trucks, buses, and trailers, including air disc brakes, SmartTrac^� stability control systems (truck and trailer), and the OnGuard^� collision safety system.

The program is part of a series of demonstrations Meritor WABCO is holding throughout the U.S. for fleets and dealers. (The next demonstration is July 23 at the Iowa Speedway from 9 am to 4 pm.)

�For many participants, this is their first experience with active safety systems,� said Jon Morrison, president of Meritor WABCO. �Throughout the demonstration, the fleet executives clearly saw and experienced how intuitive these products are to use, and how effective they are at improving vehicle and driver safety and security.�

ArvinMeritor Hybrid Dual-Mode Drivetrain Participates in HTUF Truck Convoy

Washington, D.C. (June 11, 2009) � ArvinMeritor Inc. (NYSE: ARM) participated in today�s hybrid truck �convoy� to Capitol Hill, sponsored by Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF) and CALSTART. The event included a briefing and multiple vehicle display at the Capitol Reflecting Pool here.

Attending the event from ArvinMeritor were Chip McClure, chairman, CEO and president, and Chad Mitts, director of product line management, hybrids and new technology.

ArvinMeritor�s first hybrid drivetrain system was launched in a Walmart Transportation vehicle earlier this year. Walmart operates nearly 7,200 heavy-duty trucks in North America and has committed to doubling its fleet efficiency by 2015. Walmart is testing and evaluating the newly configured vehicle in regular linehaul service at one of its distribution centers throughout 2009.

�While most hybrid systems today are best suited for start-stop applications, our hybrid drivetrain is specifically designed for linehaul, over-the-road trucks, the largest segment of the commercial vehicle population,� said Carsten J. Reinhardt, president of ArvinMeritor�s Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) business.

The Meritor dual-mode hybrid drivetrain combines both mechanical and electrical propulsion systems. Under 48 miles-per-hour, vehicle propulsion is delivered entirely through an electric motor with power from lithium ion batteries. These batteries are recharged through regenerative braking and/or an engine-driven generator. As the vehicle approaches highway speed, the drivetrain phases to a diesel-powered system with the electric motor providing power, only as required, allowing for total system optimization.

The key differentiation of this system is its ability for zero-emission mode over a wide range of vehicle driving conditions. This allows the truck to operate in places where emissions are restricted, like a port or urban area.

Additionally, the batteries provide continuous power for hotel loads during an overnight rest period, eliminating the need for engine idling or other redundant anti-idling systems. Electrification of accessories such as the air or AC compressors provides further efficiency benefits.

The Meritor hybrid drivetrain in the Walmart tractor was developed in collaboration with Navistar and Cummins and is comprised of a proprietary motor/generator unit, high capacity lithium ion batteries, as well as the overall power-management system.

TROY, Mich. (April 29, 2009) � ArvinMeritor Inc. has added two key product families to its growing aftermarket portfolio for commercial vehicles: remanufactured¹ Allison automatic transmissions, and all-makes power steering gears and pumps.

The new remanufactured transmissions will be sold under ArvinMeritor's Mascot product brand and include Allison AT, MT, HT, 1000, 2000, 2400, 3000, and 4000 series automatics. These models are operating on a wide range of vocational truck and bus applications where the expected service life of the vehicle is long but the operating demands on the transmission are high.

The Mascot transmissions (both automatic and manual models) are remanufactured to the original equipment manufacturer�s exact engineering specifications. The units are an exact fit, with no modifications necessary for installation.

ArvinMeritor's new all-makes steering gears and pumps remanufacturing program includes more than 600 parts numbers from brands such as Vickers, Hoburn, Luk, Sheppard, Eaton, Saginaw, TRW, and ZF. The steering gears and pumps are available for a wide range of commercial vehicles and applications, and include serial-number traceability and color-coded instructions to properly identify the installation method.

Doug Wolma, general manager of remanufacturing, Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket, for ArvinMeritor, emphasized that remanufactured automatic transmissions and steering gears and pumps will meet the aftermarket customer's growing needs for performance, service life, and product support �at a fraction of the cost of new component.�

"Remanufacturing also provides the environmental benefit of extending the productive life of a part that might otherwise be scrapped," Wolma said.

The remanufactured transmissions and steering gears and pumps are stocked and distributed through 25 Mascot Truck Parts facilities in Canada and the U.S., allowing expedient delivery of quality products and service across North America.

ArvinMeritor launched its first remanufactured product (axle carriers) in 1983 and has repeatedly emphasized the program�s importance to serving customers� aftermarket appetite for dependable, quality remanufactured components. (April 9, 2009) � Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has been awarded the prestigious 2009 North American Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award in Class 6-8 truck safety systems by Frost & Sullivan for the joint venture�s superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance in developing and marketing the OnGuard^� collision safety system. According to Frost & Sullivan, the new product represents a significant safety upgrade over competing systems, continuing their tradition of truck safety innovations and industry achievements.

It was presented to Meritor WABCO�s Rick Romer, director-key customer management, last night at a Frost & Sullivan formal awards ceremony in San Antonio, Texas.

�We are obviously proud of this new safety advancement, the OnGuard collision safety system, and quite gratified to learn that distinguished observers in our commercial vehicle industry feel the same way,� stated Jon Morrison, president of Meritor WABCO.�The technology is in use today in over 1,400 heavy-duty trucks across North America.

The system uses forward-looking radar sensor technology � featuring advanced algorithms � to detect multiple moving and fixed objects at distances up to 500 feet away. It quickly and reliably coordinates the engine, transmission and anti-lock braking systems. Through audible and visual warnings, the system optimizes braking reaction time. If a safe distance is compromised, OnGuard then automatically engages the throttle, engine brake and foundation brakes if necessary.
