ArvinMeritor Awarded New Driveline Contracts for Volvo Trucks North America, Inc. and Mack Trucks, Inc.
TROY, Mich., (Dec. 18, 2003) —
ArvinMeritor, Inc. (NYSE: ARM) announced today it has been
awarded major new contracts to supply its Meritor® Permalube™ RPL and RN series
U-joint drivelines to Volvo Trucks North America, Inc., and Mack Trucks,
Inc.
The five-year supply agreements are new business
wins for ArvinMeritor's Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) business
group.
Beginning Feb. 16, 2004, the Meritor Permalube RPL
U-joint drivelines will be standard equipment on the Volvo VN linehaul
tractors. The Permalube RPL includes a high-strength, compact design that
eliminates periodic greasing requirements, which, in turn, provides cost savings
to fleets. Plus, it includes a specially formulated wear- and
temperature-resistant grease to keep bearings lubricated. The component
will be assembled at the Manning, S.C., facility.
Effective March 1, 2004, Meritor RN U-joint
drivelines will be standard equipment on all Mack tractors, with the RPL
driveline to be offered as an option. The RN series, available for
multiple applications, including linehaul, city delivery and construction
vehicles, is designed to keep lubrication in and contaminants out, absorb
metallic debris and accommodate varying yoke dimensions. The component
will be assembled at ArvinMeritor’s Manning, S.C., and St. Thomas, Ont., Canada,
facilities.
"This significant new business for our company is
further evidence of ArvinMeritor's growing global partnership with the Volvo
Group, especially in the field of drivetrain products," said Brad Arnold, vice
president and general manager, Commercial Vehicle Systems, Axles/Drivelines,
ArvinMeritor. "Receiving this award demonstrates that they recognize our
excellence in drivetrain-related technology and worldwide service support
capabilities."
Volvo Trucks North America, Inc. and Mack Trucks,
Inc. are members of the Volvo Group, a publicly held company headquartered in
Gothenburg, Sweden.
