Meritor Suspension Systems Company’s Chatham Facility Named Industry of the Year
TROY, Mich., (April 4,
2003) — Meritor Suspension Systems
Company’s (MSSC) Chatham, Ont., Canada, facility has been named Chatham Industry
of the Year. MSSC is a joint venture company of the Light Vehicle Systems
business group of ArvinMeritor, Inc. (NYSE: ARM). The
District Chamber of Commerce awarded the Chatham facility this honor based on
excellence in stability and growth, environmental responsibility, community
commitment, health and safety, and employee training, as well as other
community-related factors.
The
QS-9000 - and ISO-14001 - certified manufacturing facility is the largest
independent supplier of automotive stabilizer bars and torsion bars in North
America. The facility has been serving the community since 1901 and
produces more than four million stabilizer bars and two million torsion bars
annually for DaimlerChrysler, Honda, General Motors, Mercedes and
Mazda.

site manager of the Chatham facility. “This award recognizes our
commitment to excellence when serving the community and our customers with the
highest quality suspension products.”
MSSC’s Chatham facility was recognized for a
number of accomplishments, including:
- Developing more than 25 new stabilizer bars,
including tubular bars, water and air quenching systems, and
components.
- Supporting numerous charities, including the
United Way, the Salvation Army Toy Drive, Children’s Safety Village, food
banks, Adopt-a-School Program and Walk for MS.
- MSSC spends more than $30 million annually with
local suppliers for parts, supplies and services.
- MSSC Chatham is approaching two million hours
without a lost-time injury.
- MSSC Chatham prides itself on working closely with
the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) Locals 127 and 35 for mutually beneficial
outcomes.
The Chatham Performance Plan is a joint effort
comprised of health and safety performance, training hours, employee suggestions
and throughput targets.
