ArvinMeritor Light Vehicle Systems’ Spartanburg Employees Donate $10,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
Funds originally earmarked for employee celebration
DETROIT, Mich. (Oct. 14, 2005) — Employees of ArvinMeritor, Inc.’s (NYSE: ARM) Light Vehicle Systems (LVS) business group in Spartanburg, SC have committed $10,000 to help aid those whose lives were affected by Hurricane Katrina. The funds were originally earmarked for the company’s annual Family Day slated to take place Oct. 8 at Golden Park Family Recreation Center in Simpsonville, SC.
A survey of the facility’s 275 employees revealed unanimous support for a suggestion to hold a less extravagant event at the plant in lieu of the planned activities, and to donate the remainder of the budgeted monies to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Golden Park management waived the deposit required for the reservation.
“This sacrifice – foregoing a much-anticipated celebration in order to help those of less fortunate circumstances – underlies a real selflessness and generosity of spirit,” said Michael Bleidt, vice president and general manager of LVS Emissions Technologies. “I’m proud of the Spartanburg team’s effort, and thankful to the gracious management at Golden Park Family Recreation Center.
The ArvinMeritor Trust Fund, a philanthropic program at ArvinMeritor, matched employee personal contributions to the Red Cross for Hurricane Relief throughout the month of September, resulting in combined contributions of $100,000.
