ArvinMeritor Proposes Blackpool, U.K., Workforce Reduction

BLACKPOOL, England (October 6, 2005) – ArvinMeritor, Inc. (NYSE: ARM), today announced that its Light Vehicle Systems (LVS) exhaust system components manufacturing location in Blackpool, England has opened the 90-day mass redundancy consultation process with its unions T&GWU and AMICUS. The company met with union representatives and employees today to discuss the process, which will affect all 232 employees.

“This is an undesirable and difficult position for our business and our employees,” said Michael Wood, senior director of Operations for LVS Emissions Technologies in Eurasia. “We met with our unions today to address the severity of the situation, noting that declining customer demand and increasing material and logistic costs have resulted in the business’ declining performance. The company must evaluate all alternatives, including the reduction of employees, as a means to rationalize its business and right size its capacity.”

Should ArvinMeritor reach the decision to reduce its Blackpool workforce, the company is prepared to support customer programs from alternative locations.
