LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 19, 2003) —
ArvinMeritor Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket today at the Mid-America Trucking
Show announced the immediate availability of Meritor® Gold™ self-aligning center
bearings for the most popular heavy-duty truck and tractor
applications.
The new, patent-pending design has been engineered
to accept plus or minus five degrees of angularity to assure optimum alignment
of the center bearing to the driveshaft under all operating
conditions.
The new design offers protection of the bearing
against contamination, and is now distinguishable from the old design by the
distinctive gold color of the integral deflectors. Separate dust shields
(slingers) common to the previous design, are no longer required.
“The new Meritor Gold center bearings are just
another example of how Meritor products differentiate themselves from the rest
of the industry,” said Harry Howard, vice president and general manager,
ArvinMeritor Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket. “We are continually looking for
opportunities to bring the industry innovative products such as this one, and
maintain the level of service and expertise that our customers deserve and
demand."
The new
center bearings are interchangeable with the current popular design of center
bearings in the industry. However, Meritor Gold™ center bearings designed for
original OEM trucks should not be serviced with old style center bearings, due
to possible angularity issues. The new center bearings are available
through ArvinMeritor's OEM dealer and warehouse distributor
network.
