Garrick Hu is vice president, Advanced Engineering and Product Strategy, for the Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) business group of ArvinMeritor Inc. In this position, he leads a consortium of advanced engineers and is responsible for creating a competitive advantage for the company through the mechanical and electronic integration of heavy-duty axles, drivelines, trailer systems, suspensions, brakes and transmissions. Hu is also responsible for strengthening and reinforcing CVS’ long-term growth objectives and ensuring they are consistent with customer-driven products.
With more than 30 years of experience in research, new product development and advanced engineering with heavy truck OEMs, Hu joined ArvinMeritor in 2002. Prior to that, he was vice president, advanced engineering, for the Volvo Global Trucks Group in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he was responsible for defining and implementing the group’s global engineering and technology strategy. Before that, Hu served as vice president, PDM/CIE Technology, for Renault VI/Mack group and helped shape the integration strategy for the formation of the Volvo Global Truck Group when Volvo AB acquired Renault IV and Mack Trucks in 2000. Before joining Mack Trucks in 1996, Hu held senior engineering positions with Navistar Transportation International, Kenworth Truck Company and PACCAR.
A graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science, as well as a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Hu also holds an MBA from Chapman College in Orange, Calif. He has served as chairman of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Total Vehicle Systems Committee and vice chairman of the Truck Manufacturers’ Association board of directors.
