Senior Vice President, Communications
Lin Cummins, senior vice president of Communications, directs the global
marketing, media relations and communications efforts of ArvinMeritor,
Inc. In this position, she has overall responsibility for the
corporation’s communications policy and strategy, executive and employee
communications, corporate identity programs, public relations and
governmental affairs. Cummins, who was elected a corporate officer in
April 2000, also is responsible for advertising, product brand strategy,
advanced marketing communications, community relations, contributions
and the corporate Trust. Before the July 2000 merger of Arvin Inc. and
Meritor Automotive Inc., she was senior vice president of Meritor, a
global supplier of components and systems for commercial, specialty and
light vehicle OEMs and the aftermarket.
Cummins joined Meritor in 1999 as vice president of Communications,
after serving as vice president of Advanced Marketing and Worldwide
Communications for United Technologies Automotive (UTA). While at UTA,
she was responsible for directing advanced marketing and communications,
global strategies and messages for the company, and served on the senior
leadership team. Cummins was also responsible for developing strategy
and implementing an advanced technology program that marketed future
technologies and products to OEM customers. In addition, she led
cultural change initiatives by developing an extensive employee
communications program, and developed and implemented UTA’s first global
advertising and promotional campaign. In that position, Cummins also
directed state, federal and international governmental affairs; customer
relations; community affairs, and media relations.
Prior to joining UTA in 1996, Cummins spent 19 years at Ford Motor Co.,
where she held a number of senior international management positions.
A graduate of Detroit’s Wayne State University (WSU), Cummins holds a
Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in speech and communications.
In addition to being Accredited in Public Relations (APR) by the Public
Relations Society of America, of which she is a member, Cummins is a
member of the Economic Club of Detroit and the Arthur W. Page Society,
an organization for Fortune 500 senior public relations and corporate
communications executives. She serves on the 2005-2006 Advisory Board of
Directors for the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership, as well as the
Council on Corporate Communications Strategy for The Conference Board,
and the Automotive Public Relations Council of the Motor Equipment
Manufacturers Association. Cummins is also a member of the Automotive
Press Association and a member of the United Way 2-1-1 Fund Development
Committee. In addition, she serves on WSU’s School of Business
Administration Board of Visitors, is chairman of the business school’s
External Affairs committee, and sits on the Hospice of Michigan Board of
Trustees. In 2001, Cummins was named one of the 100 Leading Women in the
North American Auto Industry by Automotive News magazine. In 2002, she
was included in Crain’s Detroit Business’ list of Detroit’s Most
Influential Women and earned WSU’s prestigious 21st Century Award, which
recognizes outstanding professional achievement and leadership by WSU
alumni. In 2003, Cummins was named Communicator of the Year by the
International Association of Business Communicators/Detroit Chapter.
