Two ArvinMeritor Plants In Chatham-Kent County Donate $32,000 To
Health Alliance Foundation
KENT COUNTY, Ont., Canada (Sept. 15, 2000) —
ArvinMeritor today announced that its plants in Chatham and Tilbury,
located in Chatham-Kent County, are teaming up to make a donation of
$32,000 to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation.
The ArvinMeritor contribution will help expand health
care services in the Chatham-Kent area by supporting the partnership
between Public General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Sydenham
District Hospital. The funds will provide support for a full array of
acute care services. In addition, the funds will help build a new St.
Joseph’s Campus, retrofit over half of the Public General campus and
upgrade Sydenham District Hospital.
“By supporting the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance
Foundation, ArvinMeritor is able to help enhance the quality of health
care to the 110,000 people in our community,” said Wayne Watson,
director of operations, Braking Systems, for ArvinMeritor.
“Improving health care is vital to our community,”
said Peter Brennan, plant manager of ArvinMeritor’s Chatham facility.
“Through our support and the support of many others, we are confident
that the Foundation will help ensure the best health care possible for
the people of Chatham-Kent.”
The donation to the Health Alliance Foundation is only
part of a broad initiative of community support that each plant
undertakes annually. In the past year, the two plants have made numerous
contributions to Chatham-Kent causes – more than half of which to
local and regional education. Other beneficiaries include the United Way
of Chatham-Kent, Junior Achievement, the Chatham-Kent Fire Department
and various other local civic, cultural and health and human services
organizations.
ArvinMeritor is a major employer in both Chatham and
Tilbury. Its facility in Tilbury produces brakes, brake shoes and
camshafts. The Chatham plant produces stabilizer bars and torsion bars.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation was
established in 1998, shortly after the announcement of an alliance that
created a partnership between the three area hospitals: Public General,
St. Joseph’s and Sydenham. The Foundation is charged with overseeing
fundraising efforts for Chatham-Kent Health Alliance projects. The
amalgamation of these hospitals into one entity is a major health
initiative for the area.
In the communities that are home to ArvinMeritor
facilities, ArvinMeritor seeks to utilize its human and financial
resources in partnership with local, private and public agencies to
achieve measurable improvements in the quality of life. This is
accomplished through a focus on education, cultural programs, civic
responsibility, and health and human services. In 1999, more than 300
grants to non-profit organizations, totaling close to $2.5 million, were
made in ArvinMeritor communities worldwide, with more than half of those
funds going to support education.
