ABOUT US

ArvinMeritor is a strong supporter of educational initiatives, especially those that emphasize engineering, science and technology, such as Formula SAE and FutureTruck. We know that programs such as these not only benefit the students, but also significantly enhance ArvinMeritor's ability to remain competitive in today's global business environment. By supporting these student competitions, ArvinMeritor hopes to increase the number of engineers and scientists available for recruitment into the field of motor vehicle engineering in future years, fostering technological development and innovation in this field.

Formula SAE

Formula SAE, held May 22-23 at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich., is a competition for engineering students in which the students design, build, and compete with small formula-style race cars. The students are given restriction on the car’s frame and engine, which makes them to use their knowledge, imagination and creativity skills when creating their cars. The vehicles are judged in three different categories: static inspection and engineering design; solo performance trials; and high-performance track endurance. As well as being a Gold Sponsor of the Formula SAE program, ArvinMeritor also sponsors the ArvinMeritor Suspension Systems Award. The award is given to the team that exhibits the best suspension system design and development. The entries are judged on outstanding performance, manufacturing, and aesthetics.

FutureTruck

FutureTruck, held June 9-17 at the Ford Michigan Proving Ground in Romeo, Mich., is a five-year engineering program that brings together the resources of industry, government and academia. This cooperative effort addresses important environmental and energy-related issues posed by the growing demand for sport utility vehicles (SUVs). The competition challenges teams of students from 15 top North American universities to continue reengineering a conventional, mid-size Ford Explorer into a lower-emissions vehicle with at least 25 percent higher fuel economy. The students are challenged to do so without sacrificing the performance, utility, safety and affordability of the vehicle. The vehicles are judged in events that evaluate their technical performance and static design. ArvinMeritor sponsors not only the event, but also the ArvinMeritor Lowest Regulated Tailpipe Emissions Award. For this event, FutureTruck vehicles are required to meet real-world requirements by simultaneously controlling pollutants and meeting minimum Federal Tier 0 emissions standards. The ultimate goal is to meet California's Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles standard.
